William L. Paul was the only son born to Rayburn and Mary Ann Paul. He was born on their farm in Jasper County, Missouri.

When Will was age 9, the farm on which they were living was in the Sheridan township of Jasper County.

When he was 25, Will fell in love with Anna Adelia Benschoter. His sister Hattie had married Anna's brother, Alva Vernoy "Vernie" Benschoter in 1893, and on October 14, 1896, in Carthage, Missouri, Will and Anna were married.

Will and Anna established a farm not far from their families in Jasper County. Their first born child came in 1898--a daughter, Lois, and then in 1903, a son, Ray. Sadly, Will and Anna lost their son Ray when he was only two.

Will and Anna remained close to their daughter Lois, even moving to Lawrence County very briefly, in the 1920's, to help out with their grandchildren, then moved back to Jasper County before 1930. Lois, her husband John Sheets, and their children established a home next to Will and Anna, with John working on the farm. Lois wrote to her family on February 11, 1920, "Papa and John started to plow yesterday but stopped to go to a sale today."

Will was a great hunter, which was almost a necessity when living on a farm. His wife Anna wrote her family, "Will killed five ducks with one shot yesterday. We had 3 to throw away--had just butchered, you see."

Will and Anna took especial delight in their grandchildren--loved telling stories about their antics when they were very young. And when they were in their early twenties and late teens, it was Will and Anna providing a home for them, as Lois had divorced, remarried, and was living in Arkansas.

Will's beloved wife Anna died in 1950, but not before they had celebrated their 50th anniversary together. Will's life came to an end eight years after Anna's death, but both left a legacy of love from their daughter Lois, and her children.

Note: William L. Paul passed away at the Manlove Rest Home in Nevada, Missouri where he had been a resident for 10 years prior to his death, according to his Missouri Death Certificate.
He was buried in Stone Cemetery [aka Stony Point] in Jasper county south of Carthage.
