Info. from FAG member Cherie Officer, Olean Times Herald, June 18, 1932 Page 3 and June 21, 1932 Page 9. Obit does not state where he died, assume Portville, NY. Fred was a prominent Portville resident and well known in western New York State. He had been Ill for about two months. He was in business with Nelson S. Holcomb in the firm of Holcomb and Fairchild. At the death of Mr. Holcomb he assumed full management. He was president of the Portville Broom Co., a director of the Olean Baking Co. and a stockholder of the Olean Wholesale Grocery Co. For nearly forty years he was a active, valued member of the Portville Presbyterian Church and had served as treasurer and trustee for twenty years. He had never missed a service when possible for him to be present. He was an officer of the Sunday School for many years and his advice was often sought. In 1894 he married Miss Gertrude Miller of Hinsdale, NY. Two children, Dr. Victor M. Fairchild of Olean, NY and Mrs. Marian (Fairchild) Custard of Holland, NY. He later married Miss Maude Ziegler of Belfast, NY. One brother survives, Robert E. Fairchild, Buffalo, three sisters, Mrs. Mary Hoppe, Flushing, Long Island, Mrs. Florence Child, Chemung, NY, Mrs. Nellie Keller, Olean, NY and two grandchildren.Funeral was held June 20, 1932 at the Portville Presbyterian Church.
