Info. from Findagrave member, Cherie Officer and the Portville (NY) Review, Friday, January 22, 1909 Page 5. Indexed as Portville NY Review 1909-1930-0232.pdf at Old Fulton NY Post web site. James was the editor and propietor of the Portville Review. He passed away suddenly on Friday morning (January 22, 1909) at the home of his Mother, Mrs. Rose Fairchild, after a two week illness. It appears that heart failure was the cause of death. James was the youngest son of James H. and Rose Fairchild and died in the home he was born in. On October 25, 1905, he married Daisy Eastman, who passed away on January 13, 1907, leaving an infant daughter, also named Daisy that survived and was cared for by James Mother and Sisters. James was very active in the Portville Presbyterian Church and was President of the C.E. Society. He was also a member of the Portville Fire Department and served as secretary for the Board of Trade and was a member of the Board of Assessors. He had purchased the Portville Review in the Fall of 1906. At the time of his death he was survived by his Mother and the his infant daughter; Four brothers, Bruce and Fred of Portville, NY., Lewis of Newark, NJ and Robert of Buffalo, NY; Three sisters, Mary of Elmhurst, Long Island, NY., Florence and Nellie, both of Portville, NY. The funeral was held at the Portville Presbyterian Church on January 25, 1909.

NOTE: Cherie believes that James wife, Daisy probably died as a result of childbirth complications, eight days after her daughter, also named Daisy, was born.
