She was born November 20, 1931, in Montpelier, Idaho, to William E. and Viola Laughter Nield. Gloria was the third eldest of 10 children. She graduated from Montpelier High School.
She married the love of her life, Albert Ronald Shannon, on December 16, 1949, in Soda Springs, Idaho. They had been married for 53 years when he preceded her in death in November 2002.
She worked as a loan officer at the Pocatello Teachers Federal Credit Union until retirement. Gloria was very active in the Holy Spirit Catholic community. She was communion minister and helped with shut-ins. She loved being there for others and her family. One of her favorite activities was fishing with her sons. She also enjoyed her water aerobics, Monday through Friday, faithfully, rain or shine. She did word search puzzles daily, her most recent having a Christmas theme. She loved the holidays, especially Christmas with her family.
Gloria is survived by two children, Julie (Gary) Toop and Mike (Deanna) Shannon; five grandchildren, Amy (Jason) Doyle, Candice Hardman, Christina Hardman, Corey (Janine) Shannon, and Kellie Shannon; three step-grandchildren, Danielle (Shaun) Toop, Brian (Jamie) Toop, Chris (Angie) Toop; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth (Elva) Nield and Tom (Karen) Nield; three sisters, Carol Erickson, Belva (Alan) Bagley, and Maxine (Chris) Henderson; and other close sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son, Edward Shannon, three brothers, Max, Carl and Terry Nield, and a sister, Lanette Roberts.
