SOUTH RIVER – MARGARET WAGENBLAST SMUTKO died Monday, November 22, 2010, at Summerhill Nursing home, Old Bridge, surrounded by her loving family. She was 90.
Born in South River, she remained a lifelong resident.
Prior to retiring in 1983, Mrs. Smutko was an Assembly Operator for M&M Sportswear, South River.
She was a longtime Communicant of St. Stephen Protomartyr RC Church, South River, and was a member of their Altar Rosary Society. She was a longtime baseball enthusiast, an avid Mets fan and enjoyed creative writing.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Smutko, in 1968 and her son, Ronald Smutko, in 1947.
Surviving are her son, Ken Smutko and his wife Gloria of South River; a brother, Robert Wagenblast of Spotswood; her ever faithful grandson Don and his wife Erica of South River and her 2 great granddaughters, Hannah Brook and Grace Elizabeth, who were her pride and joy. Being a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother were the joys of her life.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 8:15 AM in The BRUNSWICK MEMORIAL HOME, 454 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, followed by a 9:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stephen Protomartyr Church, South River. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Brunswick.
