Clarence H. Carter, 67, of 123 Fifth St., Monroe, died Jan. 25 at Walton County Hospital after a long illness.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in St. Stephen United Methodist Church with Rev. George L. Meadows and Rev. John Sorrow officiating. Burial was in West Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Woodrow Maffett, Billy Patrick, Bill Wallace, Calvin Scott, T. J. Mobley and Floyd Spence Jr. Williams-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Carter was born June 27, 1902, in Jackson County and had lived in Walton County since 1926, coming from Barrow County. He was the son of the late Joseph H. and Ella Wilkerson Carter. He was retired from the Walton Mill and was a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Estell Spence Carter; son, Willie Joe Carter of Monroe; daughters, Mrs. Dan Deneff of Utica, N.Y., Mrs. Herman Sargent, and Mrs. Peggy Maddox both of Monroe; sisters, Miss Lena Carter and Mrs. Joe Ferriero, both of Monroe; brother, Edgar T. Carter of Winder; and 14 grandchildren.
