John was born on Glessal farm in Ayrshire. He was the son of James Wilson and Jane Lusk Wilson. He married Jean McCosh in Ayrshire. They had fourteen children, James, Peter, Flora, Jean Lusk, Janet, John, West, Andrew, Agnes, David, Margaret, Elizabeth, Sarah and Allan Ramsey. Lived near Old Luce, Wigtown, Scotland until 1851 when they came to Norwich, Connecticul. They arrived in Tama County in 1855 and settled on a farm three miles southwest of Traer.
