Edward was the youngest of two sons born to John W. and Margaret "Maggie" (Jackson) Linn. His younger brother was Frank Carey Linn.

He married Alice Bell Dick Dec. 19, 1900 in Piper City, Ford, Illinois at the home of her father. Rev. M. C. Long of the Presbyterian Church officiated.

Alice and Edward had two sons, Clyde Edward and Wendell Dick Linn.

"Death of Edward Linn
The Piper City, Ill, Journal gives a long notice of the death and funeral of Edward H. Linn, a son of Mrs. Margaret Linn, who used to live in Yorkville, and a nephew of W. T. Linn of this place. He died in Piper City, February 8, aged nearly 29 years. He leaves a wife, two little sons, a mother and a brother. He was married in December 1900, and leaves his family to an early bereavement. Deceased was one of the rural mail carriers from his town and the postmaster and other carriers acted as pall-bearers at the funeral. "Eddie" attended school In Yorkville when a boy."
