Lincolnton - Bertie Branton Carnes, 89, 2406 Keener Road, died March 21, 2002, at Lincoln Nursing Center. She was born Nov. 21, 1912 in Swain County, daughter of the late Thomas Harley and Mary Queen Branton. The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Warlick Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. O. David Shrum and Rev. H. D. Shrum. Interment will follow in Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation is 7-8:30 tonight, at the funeral home. Mrs. Carnes was a homemaker. She is survived by a son, Richard Carnes of Lincolnton, N.C.; daughters, Linda C. Cook of Lincolnton, N.C. and Joyce Ramsey of Williamsburg, Va.; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Gilbert Carnes, and a son, James Newlin Carnes. Memorials may be made to Hickory Bethel Wesleyan Church in Hickory or Boger City Wesleyan Church in Lincolnton. The family will be at the home of the son, Richard Carnes, 1965 Mesa Lane, Lincolnton, N.C. 28092.
