George Brown enlisted as a Private in Rowan County, North Carolina in the fall of 1776, serving 2 months under Captain James Montomery and Col. Francis Locke, He again enlisted in the summer of 1779, serving for 5 1/2 months under Quarter Master Yarberry, following the War he moved to Unicoi County, Tennessee. He and his wife Barbara moved to Vermilion County, Illinois with his brother Abraham Brown, but he did not stay long, he and his wife moved a couple of times and ended up in Alexander County, Illinois, and that is where they are buried
