Mary Magdalene Beer was born January 30, 1921 in rural Ellis County, KS to Joseph and Regina (Flax) Weber.

She passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009 in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital at WaKeeney at the age of 88.

She attended rural Ellis schools, entered the convent soon after 8th grade graduation and continued to study there for ten years. Mary received her teaching certificate while in the convent. O

n October 23, 1945, Mary was united in marriage to Ignatz F. Beer in St. Mary's Catholic Church at Ellis. Ignatz passed away February 10, 1991.

In earlier years, Mary taught in Ellis country schools. She later worked in the laundry department in the Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital at WaKeeney. Mary was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and Altar Society.

Survivors include four daughters, Betty Ziegler; Carol Kinderknecht and husband, Vernon; Donna Keyser and husband, Larry, Sharon Uhrich and husband, Virgil; fourteen grandchildren, Charlene Anderson and husband, David, Amy Befort and husband, Pete, Lance Ziegler and wife, Libby, Dr. Travis Kinderknecht and wife, Desirae, Tavia William and husband, Grady, Michelle Post and husband, Larry, Greg Keyser, Darin Keyser, Bridget Beall and husband, Ed, Collett Spencer and husband, Andy, Kirk Knouf and wife, Cindy, Kristi Grate, Heidi Uhrich, Chad Uhrich; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and a sister, Theresa Meier.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Ignatz; nine brothers, Paul, Frank, Leo, Carl, Joseph L., Engelbert, Ambrose, John J., and Herman Weber; five sisters, Frances Neuberger, Barbara Schafer, Sophie Brown, Anna Yoder, Cecelia; and a son-in-law, Max Ziegler.

Services for Mary were held Saturday, May 2, 2009 in Christ the King Catholic Church at WaKeeney with Fathers Donald Pfannenstiel and Joseph Scheetz officiating. Interment is in the church cemetery.
