Dr. U.G.M. Walker was born near Larissa and Nebo in northern Cherokee County. He was named after his father, and like him, he became a doctor, serving rural Smith County. He married his first cousin, Susan Elizabeth Walker in 1893, and they had 4 children. Before getting his MD, he worked for the Cotton Belt Railroad as a bookkeeper. He attended several medical schools, and by 1901/1902 was practicing near Noonday before moving to Flint in 1908, where he constructed the Walker Homestead around 1910/1911. Around 1930, he purchased the Kuykendall Pharmacy in Bullard and renamed it the White Way Pharmacy, where he had an office. He was active in the Smith County Democratic and Medical Societies and died at Nan Travis Hospital in Jacksonville of heart disease in 1947.
