LAMAR, MO — Calvin Frank Brannon, 86, Lamar, Mo., passed away Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at the Truman Healthcare in Lamar.

Calvin was born Sept. 20, 1924, in McLean, Texas, to Ruel and Gertrude (Chambers) Brannon.

He attended school in Bernice, Okla.

He was a United States Marine serving in World War II. He was a Purple Heart recipient. After the military he worked at Lawn Boy and then later for Thorco Industries in Lamar, where he retired.

Calvin married Elaine Pickens on Oct. 27, 1948, in Mancos, Colo.

In 1960, Calvin became a member of the Oakton United Methodist Church.

He was a member of the V.F.W. and the Optimist Club for many years. He and his wife, Elaine, were the first to form the Gospel Sing for the Lamar Fair.

Calvin will be remembered for many of the comedy skits and his character, "Crowbar" the Indian.

He was a master wood carver and carved many treasured pieces for his family.

Calvin is survived by his wife, Elaine, of the home; one son, Monte Brannon, of Lamar; two daughters, Linda Coon and Connie Pagacz, of Lamar; one brother, George Dale Brannon, of Bella Vista, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Danny Lee Brannon; and his parents.

Services will be Thursday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m. at the Oakton Methodist Church.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time.

Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Memorial contribution may be made to the Oakton Church Building Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of Konantz-Warden Funeral Home in Lamar.
