Altus - Funeral for former Tipton resident MARY LOIS GIBSON, 97, Altus, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Frederick with the Rev. Harold Gaches officiating. Mrs. Gibson died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006, in an Altus care center.
Burial will be in Tipton Cemetery.
She was born Feb. 3, 1909, west of Tipton, to Arthur Earl and Rhoda Gertrude Chambers Smith. She attended Sunshine School, later transferring to Tipton. She married Julian Kilgore Grubbs at Frederick. He died in October 1935. She later remarried.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Helen Stallings, Carlsbad, N.M., and Jimmie and Don Poor, Joshua, Texas; two half-brothers and their wives, George Dale Brannon and Pat, Bella Vista, Ark., and Calvin and Elaine Brannon, Lamar, Mo.; a half-sister and her husband, Icy Mae Chatham and William, San Antonio; a niece, Mary Lee Williams, Lubbock, Texas; nine grandchildren; and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepdad, Reuel Brannon; a daughter, Johnnie Hawthorne; a grandson, Bill Atherton; three sons-in-law: Joe Stallings, James Atherton and J.W. "Buck" Hawthorne; two sisters: Lucy Gertrude Smith and Abbie Earl Dosher; and four stepbrothers: Robert, Otha and Dutch Brannon and Leon Smith.
