Mrs. Rebecca Jane Chittum, widow of Charles Henry Chittum, died at her home, 205 S. Randolph Street, Lexington, March 11, 1945, at 12:05 a.m. She was born in Shenandoah County March 8, 1853, the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Holtzman and Sarah Margaret Caldwell, both of Shenandoah County. For the past 76 years Mrs. Chittum had made her home in Lexington and had just past her 92nd birthday. She died very unexpected.
She was a member of the Baptist Church in New Market, VA.
Funeral services were held from the graveside in Lexington Cemetery Tuesday at 3 p.m. Rev. W. L. Lumpkin and Dr. B. T. Candler were the officiating pastors.
Survivors include the following children: Mrs. Emma Payne, Baltimore, Md; Charles H. Chittum, Ruchville, Neb; Arthur H. Chittum, Harrisonburg; Hugh H. Chittum, Lexington; Elbert C. Chittum, Catonsville, Md; and a brother Joseph Holtzman, Woodstock.
