Arthur Holtzman Chittum, 81, a well known resident and stock dealer of 282 West Water Street, died at 8:00 p.m. Thursday following an extended illness. Mr. Chittum had not been well for a year and had been seriously ill for the past three months. A son of the late Charles H. and Rebecca Holtzman Chittum, he was born on Sept. 9, 1879 at Lexington where he spent his early life. He later made his home at Hot Springs prior to moving to Harrisonburg in 1923.

Mr. Chittum was employed at Figgatts Grocery Store here for a number of years and was also an active stockdealer for many years.

On March 2, 1905 he married Miss Flossie Smiley who survives as do five children, Mrs. Lester A. Hoover, Lee Chittum, and Mrs. Clara Simpson, all of Harrisonburg; Boyd A. Chittum, of Elizabethtown, Pa.. and Mrs. Omer L. Ruddle, of Harrisonburg Route 4; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and three brothers, Charles Chittum, of Omaha, NE; Carroll Chittum, of Miami, Fl.; and Hugh Chittum, of Lexington, VA.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday from the chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home. Dr. E. E. Miller of Cumberland, Md. will have charge of the services and burial will be in the Mt. Crawford Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be E. H. Wilt, Russell A. Turner, Everette Martin, Harold B. Ward, L. F. Webster and Ellis Matheny.
