He married Susan Evans and fathered Mary E. (b. 11/28/69 - married a Coulson), Samuel E. (b. @1872), Arrian E. (b. 06/11/74), and Sarah (b. 08/21/77 - married James W. Baish). In 1890, he still lived in Franklin Township, York County, where he died from "apoplexy."
