Miss Rowena A. Edwards, 88 a native of Traer and lifelong member of the North Tama Wilson Clan which holds it's annual reunion in Traer, died Sunday night in a rest home in Elgin, Illinois where she had been a resident about 10 years.
Miss Edwards, a daughter of Luther and Elizabeth Wilson Edwards, was born June 27, 1887. Her mother was the former Elizabeth Wilson, one of the 12 children of John and Jean McCosh Wilson. Elizabeth married Luther Edwards here in 1876. The couple lived here until 1881 when they moved to Waterloo. Rowena graduated from east Waterloo high school. She attended what was then Iowa State Teachers college in Cedar Falls, the University of Chicago, and Simmons college in Boston.
She was on the staff of the U. S. Weather Bureau Library in Washington D. C. from 1898 to 1914. She became a cataloger in 1918.She held that post until she became head cataloger emeritus in 1947. She remained active in the library on a part time basis until the 1952-53 school year. She was a former president of the SCI Faculty Women, a member of DAR and Cedar Heights Presbyterian church, of which her mother was the principal founder. Her parents planned the new town of Rownd's Park on the Cedar River between Cedar Falls and Waterloo, which later was named Cedar Heights, and became a part of Cedar Falls in 1935.
Rowena is survived by a niece and a nephew. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, besides her parents. Her body was returned to Cedar Falls from Elgin, Illinois, Tuesday. Funeral services were to be at 1 p. m. yesterday at the Dahl Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, conducted by the Rev. Robert Roof, pastor of Cedar Heights Presbyterian church, after which her body was brought to Traer for interment in Buckingham cemetery.
