BERT EDWARDS KILLED
Nephew of Tama Jim Wilson Meets Death by Falling from Car

Bert Edwards, a son of L. H. Edwards, of Waterloo, was killed at Iowa Falls Saturday night, by falling from a box car while at work switching in the Illinois Central yards. He was on the top of a car near the rear end of the train when last seen alive and about fifteen minutes afterward his body was discovered at the side of the track cold in death. The body was not mangled to any extent, but the neck was broken by the fall and death was instantaneous. Mr. Edwards has been employed as brakeman on the Illinois Central for the past six years and there are few men that are employed by that road that are more popular with the men than was “Zip” as he was commonly called.

The deceased was a Waterloo boy, having lived in that city most of his life, although born in Traer 30 years ago, He is the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Edwards and leaves a wife and baby girl to mourn his loss. He attended the East Waterloo public school and was a graduate of the Waterloo business college. A short time ago a train upon which Mr. Edwards was working stopped suddenly in the yards in Waterloo and he was thrown with such force against the side of the caboose that he had his nose broken. This was the only accident that Mr. Edwards had experienced during his railroad career.

The mother of the deceased was a Wilson, a sister of Tama Jim and others here. She was reared and married here, and her husband was in the dry goods business in Traer for a number of years.

Funeral services were held at the home in Waterloo Tuesday afternoon and on Wednesday the body was brought to Traer, accompanied by the family. At 2 p. m. additional services were held in the U. P. church in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends, Dr. Peter Swan conducting the same, burial was in Buckingham cemetery.
