She was born May 5, 1936, in Muncie, the daughter of Selby F. Harney and Mary (Van Horn) Harney, and resided in Alexandria since 1968.
Doris assisted her late father-in-law and husband in the operation of Martin Paving Co., formerly of Alexandria. She was an avid Indianapolis Colts fan and loved working outside, especially gardening and mowing. However, her greatest enjoyment in life was the care, nurturing and support of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was their #1 fan and attended numerous sporting events and anything else they were involved in.
Survivors include three daughters, Helen (Dan) Gregory of Alexandria, Mary (Larry) Brannon of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Carolyn (Tony) Prince of Rhome, Texas; son, Lioniel (Jody) Martin III of Alexandria; 10 grandchildren, Michael Simpson, Jennifer (Roger) Boswell, Larry (Erica) Brannon Jr., Timothy Forshee, Jason Forshee, Lindsay Martin, Dustin Martin, Steven Martin, Shannon Prince and Brandon Prince; 14 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Roscoe Harney of Jamestown, Tenn., Selby (Pat) Harney of Muncie, Clifford (Ruth) Harney of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Kenny (Kathy) Harney of Dean, Texas; four sisters, Maxine Burke of Sharpsville, Phyllis Akers, Thelma (Bill) Belt, Imogene (Frank) Hurst, all of Muncie; sister-in-law, Clara Harney of Cape Coral, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 35 years, Lioniel Martin Jr. in 1998; a brother, William Harney; her mother and father-in-law, Lioniel Sr. and Elizabeth Martin.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Owens Funeral home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with the Rev. Tom Malbone officiating.
Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Alexandria.
