James Clifton Rites Friday

James T. Clifton, 81-year-old Jackson County native and longtime Martin County resident, died yesterday at 10:30 p.m.

Mr. Clifton, a retired farmer, became seriously ill Sunday at his residence in Shoals. He was taken to the Daviess County Hospital at Washington twenty-four hours prior to his death there last night.

A widower, Mr. Clifton was married to the late Mary E. Shrum Clifton, on February 4, 1906. He is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Clone Quackenbush of Indianapolis; Miss Grace E. Clifton, Shoals; Mrs. Fern Ison, Long Beach, California; one son Claude L. Clifton of Bedford; two brothers, E. R. Clifton of Shoals, and George Clifton, Loogootee.

Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Church in Shoals, Friday at 2:00 p.m. Rev. John Sutch, pastor of the church will conduct the service. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

A member of the Shoals Methodist Church, Mr. Clifton was born October 26, 1874, a son of the late William B. and Mary J. Earl Clifton, then of Jackson County.

The Queen Funeral Home of Shoals is in charge of arrangements and friends may call at the funeral home after 7:00 tonight.
