Fred Brumm was the youngest child of German immigrants, Daniel Brumm Sr. and Luise Regine "Louisa" (Raeuchle) Brumm. He was also their only child who was born in St. Louis, Missouri, where they had settled after immigrating and living in Burlington, Iowa, for a few years. Fred spent his entire life in St. Louis, never having married.
