Daniel Brumm was the son of Philipp Brumm (1785-1856) and Sabina Barbara (Staiber) Brumm (born 1789). He was the seventh of their known eleven children, born December 11, 1824, in Sternenfels, Württemberg. He married Luise Regine "Louisa" Raeuchle (1829-1916) on June 6, 1852 in Sternenfels (as several children were born before that date, possibly it is in error), and almost immediately left with his brother's family, that of Carl Brumm, for the U.S. Both arrived on the ship Heidelberg in New Orleans in December 1853. First Daniel and his family moved with Carl's family to Burlington, Iowa, where Daniel applied for U.S. citizenship on December 10, 1857. By 1860 the family left the Carl Brumms in Burlington, and moved to St. Louis, where they settled and remained.
Daniel died sometime between 1860 and 1868, but no records of his death have been found. He and Louisa had five children: Daniel Jr., Eva (Brumm) Binder, Johann (John) Andreas, Philip B., and Frederick "Fred" Brumm.
