MOSES BURNET DEAD IN KANSAS, FAMILY LEARNS

Former Syracusan of Prominent Family Succumbs After Brief Illness.

Moses Dewitt Burnet, 66, a former resident of this city, died of acute indigestion on March 22 in Pleasonton, Kan. Funeral services will be held at Pleasonton on Thursday. His daughter, Mrs. Bruce S. Burlingame, accompanied by Mr. Burlingame, left Tuesday night for the Western city.
Besides Mrs. Burlingame, Mr. Burnet is survived by his widow, Mrs. M. D. Burnet of the Leavonworth apartments, and another daughter, Mrs. I. Peace Hazard of this city. Mrs. Burnet is very ill at her apartment.
Mr. Burnet had not lived in Syracuse for more than 20 years, having had extensive mining interests in the South and West. He remained there and had not visited here in many years. The news of the death came as a distinct shock, as he had not been ill, his family hearing of his good health only a few days ago. Dispatches regarding his death have been brief, but it is understood that his death was very sudden.
Mr. Burnet's family formerly occupied the pretentious house at the corner of James street and Hawley avenue, the building which now houses the Century club. The Burnet family is one of the oldest in this city and has always been prominently connected with its history in all matters of progress.
He was the son of John Burnet and Cynthia Monroe of the Monroe family of historic fame. Mrs. Burnet's family is not less distinguished. She is the daughter of the late Governor Andrew Curtin, who was governor of Pennsylvania at the time of the Civil War and was known throughout the land as "Pennsylvania's war governor." She has always been prominently connected with musical activities in Syracuse.
