Samuel Spach (became Spaugh) was the fifth of eight known children of Johann Gottlieb Spach (1764-1814) and his first known wife, Martha Elizabeth Hege (1763-1812), who married
21 Jan 1787 at Bethabara, Surry (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. After Martha died, Johann remarried to the widow Julianna Strub Phillips Muecke (1771-1844) in c1813 at Salem, Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina, but had no known additional children. The family moved to Indiana sometime between 1830 and 1850.
Samuel married Catharina Greter (later became Crater) (1796-1875) on 19 Nov 1818 at Friedberg, Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. Samuel and Catherina were the parents of three known children, namely:
1. Florina Louise Spaugh Sidener (1819-1858)
2. Sophia Regina Spaugh Remy (1825-1897)
3. Lewis Augustus Spaugh (1829-1893)
