Ida Dawson, Newton

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 18, at Reese Chapel in Newton for Ida D. Dawson, a former Winterset resident who died at her home in Newton on Saturday, May 15. She was 78 years old.

Born May 29, 1904 in Madison county, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Leach.

In 1945, she married Homer Dawson in Des Moines. She operated a beauty shop in Nevada for several years, moving to Winterset after the death of her husband in 1969. Mrs. Dawson lived in Winterset for nine years before moving to Newton two years ago.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 4 sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Umbarger of Newton; a brother, Ray Leach of Winterset; 6 sisters, Marie Carey and Georgia Cummings of Winterset, Wilda McManus and Fern Miller of Des Moines, Alberta Sousley of Palm Desert, Calif., and Aletha Bussanmas of Bevington.

Graveside services were held Tuesday afternoon at Nevada Cemetery, Nevada, Ia.

Ida Delia Leach married (1) Robert Q. Alexander on 29 May 1926 in Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas. She married (2) Homer Dawson on 19 February 1945 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. This marriage information is from Dorian the Historian.
