William Ray Leach, Winterset

Services for William Ray Leach, 87, Winterset, who died April 15 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital, were held Wednesday, April 18 at the First United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Alan Parker officiating. Burial was at the McDonald-Chase Cemetery with the I.O.O.F. and American Legion also conducting services.

Born in Madison County Aug. 8, 1896, Mr. Leach was the son of William and Lurie McDonald Leach. He spent his lifetime in Madison County and was a farmer until retiring in 1960. He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, the I.O.O.F. Lodge, the American Legion and the Farm Bureau.

On Sept. 15, 1920, he was married to Myrl Tyer, who preceded him in death.

Survivors include daughter, Doris (Mrs. Lloyd) Schirm of Winterset and Phyllis Simmons of Waukee; sisters, Marie Carey of St. Charles, Aletha Bussanmas of Bevington, Wilda McManus of Des Moines, Alberta Sousley of California, Fern Miller of Des Moines and Georgia Cummings of Winterset; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He also preceded in death by his parents and five sisters.
