Homer Dawson dead at age 72, rites Saturday

Homer Dawson, a retired mechanic, died at his home at 1222 Fifth Street in Nevada this morning at the age of 72.

He had been ill for the past three months.

Born August 4, 1897 in Story County, he was the son of Howard and Maude Dawson. A lifetime resident of Nevada, he worked as a mechanic. He was married to Miss Ida Alexander* February 19, 1945 in Des Moines.

Mr. Dawson was a member of the United Methodist Church and was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife Ida, one daughter Mrs. Patricia Umbarger* of Newton, two grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Louise Stillwell of Chariton and Mrs. Blanche Anderson of Williamson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.

Funeral services will be at the Ryan Funeral Home Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Azel Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Nevada Cemetery.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Homer Dawson married Ida Delia (Leach) Alexander. She had been previously married to Robert Q. Alexander with whom she had one known child: Patricia Alexander, referred to in his obituary as Homer's daughter.
