JAMES BLAINE METCALF

James Blane Metcalf, 50, of Ledbetter Road, Route 1 Arden, N.C. died Thursday, March 23, 1972 in an Asheville hospital.

He was a native of Madison County and had lived in Buncombe County for the past 35 years and was employed by Memorial Mission Hospital. He was the son of Clarence Cheat Metcalf and Toy Deaver Metcalf. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Long Shoals Baptist Church.

Other survivors included his widow, Betty Gaye Rogers Metcalf, two daughters, Clarissa and Linda Metcalf of the home; three sons, Bruce Metcalf of Penrose, N.C., Michael and Randy Metcalf of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Souther of Arden, N.C. and Mrs. Clara Hayes of Fletcher, N.C.; three brothers, Everette and Roy and Clarence Metcalf of Pisgah Forest, N.C.

Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 1972 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home. The Revs. James Lee and Bruce Rabon officiated. Pallbearers were nephews, Pratt, Ronald and Arthur Buckner and Ray, Sammy and Steve Metcalf. Honorary pallbearers were fellow employees of Memorial Mission Hospital. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
