SMITHVILLE – Monsignor Clyde Henry Holtman, 76, of Smithville died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001.
He was born February 21, 1925 in Westphalia to Albert and Josephine (Witcher) Holtman. He was ordained into the Catholic Priesthood in May 1949 at Westphalia by Bishop L.J. Reicher. During his 50 plus years as a priest, he served parishes in Brenham, Cameron, Rockdale, Smithville, Cyclone, Rockne, String Prairie and others in the Diocese of Austin.
A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockne. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Rev. Elmer Holtman at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2001 at Sacred Heart Church in Rockne. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001 at The Church of the Visitation in Westphalia. Burial followed in the Visitation Cemetery, Westphalia.
Surviving are: Brothers, Virgil Holtman of Temple and Rev. Elmer Holtman of Austin; sisters, Grace Hoelscher of Westphalia, Evelyn Hoelscher of Robinson, Joyce Greger of Lott and Betty Kleypas of Temple; numerous nieces and nephews.
