- Earl Junior "E.J." Stewart, 73, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1997.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, in the Rector Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Cliff Houghton of Fairview Assembly of God officiating.

Masonic Graveside Rites will be given by the Isom Masonic Lodge #1242 A.F.&A.M. in Borger. Military Rites will be by the United States Marine Corps Reserves.

Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Rector Funeral Home.

A native of Terrell, Mr. Stewart moved to Amarillo in 1966 from Stinnett. He married Sarah Elizabeth Siesser in 1964 in Plainview. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, participating in action against the Japanese at the Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan and Tinian. He worked as a brakeman/conductor for Santa Fe Railroad 37 years before retiring in 1987. He was a 25 year member of Isom Masonic Lodge #1242 A.F.&A.M. in Borger, a 25 year member of the Borger Chapter #811 Order of the Eastern Star. He also worked with the International Order of Rainbow for girls. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1475. He was a 40 year member of the United Transportation Union. He was preceded in death by a son, Jackie Lee Stewart, in 1955 and a brother, Loyzet Stewart, in 1990.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Elizabeth; two sons, Bobby Stewart of Amarillo and Curtis Wayne Stewart of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; two daughters, Edna Carlson of Mesa, Ariz., and Lola Aragon of Amarillo; two brothers, Roy Curtis Stewart of Borger and Floyd Thomas Stewart of Henderson; five sisters, Ottie Lee Rezendes of Redondo Park, Calif.; Leatries Becker of Amarillo, Etta Mae Moore of Franklin, Edna L. Davis of Salina, Kans., and Roselee Kuykendall of Virginia Beach, VA.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center.

Mr. Stewart was known as Junior to all of his family and E J to his friends. His name was not Earl Linus as some people think. His name was Earl Junior Stewart. This is my Dad's older brother, I knew him my entire life.
