He was dismissed the service May 7, 1862, for being an incompetent musician, but the discharge was honorable. His name is in neither in Bates, History of Pennsylvania Volunteers nor in George R. Prowell, History of the 87th Pennsylvania.
He married Sarah Craver (or Kaylor) January 7, 1855, and fathered John Calvin (b. 02/19/56), Lavinia (b. @1860), Mary Ann (b. 04/09/61 - married Henry Stauffer), Emma A. (b. @1862 - married Daniel Harkins), Irene (b. 08/14/66 - married a Grant Hantz), and Christopher C. (b. 10/26/73). Sarah died November 3, 1873, and he married Catherine Martha C. Harman October 13, 1874, in York.
