Joseph Oliver Wheeler, 74, of Nampa, died Saturday Oct. 25, 1986, at his home of natural causes.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 29, at the Nampa Fifth Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Sunnyridge Road with Bishop Kenneth Wheeler, son of Mr. Wheeler, and Bishop of the Fifth Ward, officiating. Burial will follow in the Kohlerlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Wheeler was born April 1, 1912 at Blanding, Utah, a son of Frederick and Mariah Lurinda Oliver Wheeler. He was reared and educated in Utah. He married Vontella Lorraine Nielson on Sept. 14, 1931 at Water Flow, New Mexico. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on Nov. 15, 1944. He was a rancher in Southern Utah and Wyoming prior to moving to Kuna in 1957, where he continued to farm and ranch. After a serious illness in 1981, he and his wife moved to Nampa to make their home.

He was a member of the Nampa Fifth Ward LDS Church; a Melchizedek Priesthood holder of the LDS Church and also had various other positions within the church.

Survivors include is wife of Nampa; three daughters, Bonnie Nebeker of Fairview, Wyo., Norma Hinck of Star, and Judy Atwood of Nampa; three sons, Kenneth and Dean Wheeler both of Nampa, and Fred Wheeler of Kuna; six sisters, Minnie Newman of Moab, Utah; Thelma Linde of West Valley, Utah; Eva Robison of Tucson, Ariz., Vera Gay of Provo, Utah; Ina Neve of Santa Ana, Calif.; and Ora Moore of California; 34 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, at the Alsip Funeral Chapel, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, at the church.
