Herman R. Jost, 76, of Brush and formerly of Akron, died Jan. 11, 2004 at his home in Brush. Funeral services were conducted Jan. 15 at Brenner Funeral Home in Akron, with Pastor Don Thurn of Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center officiating. Interment followed at Akron Cemetery , with Akron veterans posts performing military rites. Brenner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jost was born July 1, 1927 on his father's homestead southwest of Akron to Herman and Jennie, nee Gebauer, Jost.

He farmed and ranched all of his life, with the exception of his service in the U.S. Army, where he served with the last mule artillery pack unit and with ski troops.

He is survived by brother Alfred Jost of Akron, sisters Emma Hoover of Akron and Edith Peters of Brush, as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Edna Lynch.

In his later years, Jost retired to the Tabor Apartments in Brush, where he was living at the time of his death.
