Louis Alfred Jost, 79, of Akron died at his home Saturday.
Jost was born on his father's homestead May 4, 1925, to Herman and Jennie (Gebauer) Jost. He attended Bellvue School through the eighth grade and graduated from Akron High School in 1942.
He was a rancher and farmer until 1967 when he moved to Akron and worked for the Akron Coop until he retired. Jost enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 and served as a corporal in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1953.
Jost married Viola (McGee) Durns on Oct. 18, 1958.
He was active in the Akron Elks Lodge No. 2579 of which he was a charter member. He also was a member in the Akron VFW Post No. 8064, holding several offices in that organization. He volunteered his time in the Share program for many years.
Jost is survived by two sisters, Emma Hoover of Akron and Edith Peters of Brush; three stepsons, Ronald, Larry and Robert Durns; 14 stepgrandchildren, and one stepgreat-granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vi; a sister, Edna Lynch; a brother, Herman Jost; stepdaughter, Peggy Hasse, and two stepgrandchildren.
Memorial contributions in Jost''s memory may be made to the Akron Senior and Community Center.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. from the First Presbyterian Church in Akron with Rev. Susan Spencer officiating. Interment will follow in the Akron Cemetery with the Akron Veterans Posts performing military rites.
