Mrs. Bessie Berney Dies at St. Paul --

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 21 at 2 PM in Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolbach for Mrs. Bessie Berney, 85, who passed away Sunday morning in the Howard County Memorial Hospital in St. Paul.

Frank Freeman, minister, offficiated at the services. Mrs. Vic Grossart and Mrs. Larry Steenson sang "Softly and Tenderly" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" accompanied by Mrs. Wm. Paulman, Jr on the organ.

Casket bearers were Donald R. Berney, Kenneth Vogt, Gaylen E. Berney, Wayne Silk, Virgil E. Berney, Jr. and Wm. C. Berney.

Burial was in Hillside Cemetery at Wolbach with arrangements by Greenway Funeral Home.

Mrs. Berney was born September 21, 1885 at Sidney, Iowa to William and Sarah Imus. As a small child, she moved with her family to a farm near Bartlett and later to a Nance County farm.

She married Peter Berney at Wolbach on September 28, 1904. They farmed near there until their retirement, when they moved to Wolbach.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lola Silk of St. Paul and Mrs. Velda Vogt of Green City, Mo; three sons, Leland of San Gabriel, California, Loyal of Wolbach and Virgil of Palmer, 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, four brothers, four sisters and one grandson.
