Mrs. Smith D. Atkins, well known to Seward people among whom she had lived for forty-three years, passed away at her home here at an early hour Saturday morning. The direct cause of her death was an attack of influenza, although she had been in poor health for several years. She is survived by her husband and one son, Smith D. Atkins, Jr. of St. Louis,, Mo., and one daughter, Mrs. William A. Reynolds of Friend, Nebr. The son was summoned from St. Louis, but did not reach Seward until after his mother had passed away.

There also survives the deceased's three brothers and one sister, W. S. Harvey of Lincoln, E. E. Harvey of Chicago, C. F. Harvey of Marne, Iowa, and Mrs. W. R. Palmer of Albia, Iowa; also one grandson.

Mrs Atkins had been active in Seward affairs during the many years of her residence here. She was a member of the Woman's club and had served as its president. She was an Eastern Star and had been a member of the History and Art club and the Magazine club. She was a member of Chapter CC, P. E. O., having first joined the society forty-five years ago, when a girl of 17 in Iowa. She had also been an active member of the Presbyterian church since girlhood. On October 2nd last she and her husband celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary. She was held in high esteem by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held at the Federated church at 1:30 Monday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. H. W. Hansen, assisted by Rev. F. G. Knauer.

The remains were taken to Muscatine, Iowa for burial in the cemetery by the side of the parents of the deceased. Dr. Atkins, accompanied by his son and daughter and the latter's husband, accompanied them.

Obituary
Amelia Rowena Harvey was born at Letts, Iowa, September 27, 1867. During her girlhood she moved with her parents to Albia, Iowa. She united with the Presbyterian church at an early age and began singing in the church choir at the age of twelve. She attended and graduated from the Albia high school at the age of seventeen.

She came to Seward in 1887 and taught in the Seward public schools for one year. She was married on October 2, 1889, to Smith D. Atkins. To this union two children were born, Samuel Dykins, April 7, 1891 and Eleanor Rowena, June 26, 1900.

Word was received here today by Mrs. S.H. Boruff, 1020 Orchard avenue, of the death of her cousin, Mrs. Minnie Harvey Atkins, at Seward, Neb.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Hoffman Funeral Home here at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
Surviving Mrs. Atkins are her husband, Dr. Smith Atkins, one son, Dikens Atkins; one daughter, Mrs. Eleanor Reynolds, all of Seward, Neb.; three brothers, Scott Harvey, Omaha, Neb., Charles Harvey, Maine, Ia., and Ed Harvey, Denver, Colo.; one sister, Mrs. Flora Palmer, Albia, Ia.
