Samuel C. Harvey died at the home of his daughter Mrs. S. D. Atkins, at 10 p.m. on Sunday after many months of illness, at the age of 87 years.
Mr. Harvey was a native of Pennsylvania. In April, 1844, he started west, locating in Iowa-- then the outpost of civilization. He reached Muscatine in May, after a long trip by steamboat down the Ohio and up the Mississippi rivers. He engaged in the grain and mercantile business in Muscatine. He came with his family to Seward in 1891. His wife preceded him to a better life by only a short while. He was the father of twelve children, six of whom surive him. They are: W. C., Marne, Iowa; W. F. Lincoln; C. F., Winner, S. D.; E. E., Chicago; Mrs. W. R. Palmer, Albia, Iowa; Mrs. S. D. Atkins, Seward.
The funeral service were held from the home on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m., conducted by Rev. Rohrbaugh. The remains were taken to Muscatine, Ia., for burial, accompanied by Dr. and Mrs. S. D. Atkins, and Ellen.
