Samuel Durbin Expires Today - Retired Adams County Farmer Dies at Home of Son Early Today
Samuel J. Durbin, 66, well known retired Adams County farmer died at 3 o'clock this morning at the home of his son, Harry C. Durbin, 2511 Oliver street, Fort Wayne, of paralysis. Mr. Durbin had been sick for the past six months and resided with his son the past five weeks.
Mr. Durbin was a farmer, residing near Pleasant Mills the greater part of his life. He was a member of the Union Chapel United Brethren church for many years.
The deceased was born in Adams County, near Pleasant Mills, May 19, 1865, the son of John and Hannah Durbin, both deceased.
Surviving is his wife, Lydia Martz-Durbin, and the following children: Mrs. Laura Gehres of Osseo, Wis.; Mrs. Bessie Watkins, of Pleasant Mills; Harry C. Durbin, Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; six brothers, Daniel F. Durbin, Adams County; George W. Durbin, Decatur; J. H. Durbin, Cando, N. Dak.; William A. Durbin, Fort Wayne; Robert M. Durbin, Taylor, Wis.; Joseph Durbin, Pleasant Mills; five sisters, Mrs. Rhoda Mills, Rock Lake, N. Dak.; Mrs. Emma Hoy, Dells Lake, N. Dak.; Mrs. Cora Reinhart, Fort Wayne, Mrs. Nancy C. Cook, Decatur; Mrs. Ida Wolfe, Washington township. A daughter and a brother preceded the deceased in death.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Harry C. Durbin residence in Fort Wayne, and at 2 o'clock at the Pleasant Mills M. E. church. Rev. T. H. Harmon, pastor of the Union Chapel church will officiate and will be assisted by Rev. Frank Burns, pastor of the Pleasant Mills M. E. church. Burial will be in the Pleasant Mills cemetery.
