Funeral services for Luther McCullough, Jr., age 89, of the Reilly Springs Community, have been set for Friday, October 15, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Old Reilly Springs Methodist Church with Brow. Russel Floyd officiating.


Interment will follow in the Reilly Springs Cemetery with John Merle Allison, Joe T. Attlesey, Bruce Williams, Curtis Jenkins, Joe Goggans, Teddy Boggs, Gary Bailey, Kerry Bailey, and Zack Reeves serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will include Leo and Dorothy Millard, Paul and Nancy Gaskell, Betsy Whitson, Bobby Stalcup, Tommie Caudell, Charlotte Thrasher, Phyllis Dunn, Laura Teer, Mary Attlesey, Linda Avis, Tootsie Martin, Cynthia Meek, Mickey Ledbetter, Jimmy Cox, Brent Stein, Brandon Williams, and Jeff Chesnut.


Mr. McCullough passed away on Tuesday morning, October 12, 2010, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.


Luther "Tex" McCullough Jr. was born April 9, 1921 in Klondike, Texas the son of Luther C. McCullough and Ida Fox.


He married Billie Faye Attlesey on October 31, 1943 in South Beach, Florida. She preceded him in death in 1981.


Mr. McCullough was a retired Journeyman Printer. He was a member of Reilly Springs Methodist Church. He was a long time member of the Dallas Typographical Union and Communication Workers of America for 60 years.


He served his country in the United States Air Force at Molesworth, Cambridgeshire, England during World War II. He served as a "Hells's Angel" in the 303rd Bombardment group in which he flew thirty five missions as a tail gunner on a B-17 bomber combat team. Hopkins County Military Coalition will be at the graveside to conduct a flag folding ceremony as tribute to his national service.


Survivors include son, Terry Wayne McCullough, and wife, Leslie, of Sulphur Springs; a daughter, Vickie Moore, and husband, Bill, of San Antonio; grandchildren, Natalie and Jimmy Cox, Carrie and Brent Stein; great-grandsons, Evan Stein and Zachary Stein; sisters-in-law, Mary Attlesey and Tootsie Attlesey Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by one sister, Jackie Chesnut.
