George was one of thirteen children for parents Phillip Gordon Austin and wife Elisabeth Catherine Rogers. He married Ollie Fisher on July 16, 1901 in Grafton, West Virginia. They had ten children: Lessie Rose; George; Charles William; Genevieve Violet; Paul James; Harold Wayne; Emma Dorothy; Carl Bernard; King Edward; Margie M. Between 1910 to 1920 George Austin was employed with the B & O Railroad as a car repairman. By 1930 he was working as a coal miner.

George P. Austin, 96, of 736 Southern Ave., Morgantown, formerly of Grafton, passed away Thursday night at 10:50 in the Grafton City Hospital. Mr. Austin had been making his home with his daughter Marjorie in Morgantown. He was born in West Virginia, May 25 1875, the son of the late Gordon and Katherine Rogers Austin. His wife Ollie M. Fisher preceded him in death. Surviving are seven children, George Junior of Fairmont, Charles, Harold and Carl all of Grafton, Mrs. Genevieve Werner of Bluffton Ohio, King of Concord, New Hampshire and Marjorie of Morgantown; 35 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Two children Mrs. Lessie Klepetka and Mrs. Dorothy Hamilton, a step-son William C. Fisher and several brothers and sisters are deceased. Mr. Austin was last employed by the city of Grafton. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.
