Nina Despain 1924 ~ 2010 Our dear, sweet mother, Nina Judkins Despain passed away on Oct. 20, 2010 from cancer and other serious illnesses. Born September 1, 1924 to Sarah Blanch and Parley B. Judkins in West Warren, UT. Graduated from Murray High School. Attended BYU and it was in an English class there that she met her future husband Robert Glenn Despain. They were married on September 19, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Former Stake Relief Society President and served in many other callings as well as the Spanish Name Extraction program for over 30 years. She was so devoted to this calling that it was a rare occasion to miss a day. Mom proudly served her country in the US Coast Guard during World War II. Member of the Daughter Utah Pioneers where she volunteered as a Docent at the DUP Museum for many, many years. Member of her community Suburban Arts group. Mom loved music, her roses, camping and loved to travel or just go for a nice ride. Mom will always be remembered by hundreds of people for her delicious handmade and dipped chocolates. Christmas and Easter were favorite times at her home with all the candy and Easter Eggs she so lovingly and patiently created. She was also noted for her fabulous Carrot Cake and her Sour Cream Raisin Pie. Mom was a very hard worker and couldn't sit still and rest. She was a great example of service to her family and others and was always there for all of us.

Nina is survived by her son Robert L. Despain and daughters Cindy (Johnny) Krebs, Kaylene (Bill) Wayman, and Corinne (Sheldon) Izatt, 16 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband, daughters Pamela (Hans) Larson and Shanna Richmond, grandson Eric Ryan Wayman, stepgrandson Douglas Izatt, parents, brother Newall Judkins and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 25, 2010, 12:00 noon at the Taylorsville 8th Ward building located at 1495 W. Tamarack Rd (4650 South) with a viewing from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday at the ward and from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Monday prior to the funeral. Interment Valley View Memorial Park.

Directors Independent Funeral Service. The family would like to thank Dr. Gouw and Dr. Gilcrease and the many caregivers at the VA Hospital, Aspen Ridge East, and especially the wonderful, caring nurses and CNA's at the CareSource Hospice Residence Center who made her passing be comfortable and peaceful.
