CIVIL WAR VET NEXT TO LAST IN POST, DIES
David Calvin Kirkpatrick, next to the last member of the Pope Post of the Grand Old Army of the Republic, died at 7:20 p.m., last night, at the age of 95 years, 3 months and 17 days.
Death followed a stroke, said to have been precipitated by some snow shoveling he did Monday. Mr Kirkpatrick died at his home at 307 Garfield st., leaving Thomas W Marlin, 94, the only living GAR of the Pana post. Mr Marlin said today, "I shall attend taps of my old comrade". Deceased belonged to the 155th Pennsylvania Volunteers, during the Civil War.
Known thoughout the community as the man who drove a horse and buggy for many years after the auto became popular, Kirkpatrick rivaled Lou Paul in owning a fine spirited horse.
Mrs Anna Chatham Kirkpatrick, wife, survives as do the following children: Mrs Ida Fornwalt, Warrensburg; Mrs Mollie Hill, Anderson, Ind; Mrs. Elizabeth Matlock, Assumption; B C Kirkpatrick, Tower Hill; George Kirkpatrick, Charleston; and Mrs Amy Sickles, Pana. Mrs Angeline Kells of Omaha, Neb, is a surviving sister.
Deceased was born in (Dayton) Pennsylvania, Sept 22, 1844, and has lived in Pana for the past 33 years. He was a member of the Methodist church.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, with burial in Linwood cemetery, in charge of the Stumpf funeral service. Other arrangements are incomplete.

He was the son of William Barnes and Mary T Gahagen Kirkpatrick.
