Daniel Byers, the son of John Riley Byers and Elizabeth Anderson, was born on June 14, 1802 in Kentucky. He was named for his paternal grandfather Daniel Byers, a Revolutionary War soldier, who was the husband of Margaret Miller. After the war grandfather Daniel came to the Grayson County, Kentucky area that was then a part of Jefferson County, Virgina. That area then became Nelson County, Virginia in 1780. Daniel's father, John Riley Byers, was born there on June 1, 1782. In 1785 the area where they lived became a part of Nelson County, Virginia which in turn became Nelson County, Kentucky in 1792. By 1793 it was located in Hardin County, Kentucky and by 1810 it was located in Grayson County, Kentucky.

Daniel Byers was the husband of Margarette Bratcher, the daughter of William Bratcher and Mary Elizabeth Avery. She was born on June 19, 1805.

Daniel Byers died in Grayson County on February 1, 1873. He was buried there in the Spurrier Cemetery located near the Ohio County line. His wife Margarette Byers died on June 19, 1883. She is also buried in this cemetery.
