DEATHS
ANDREWS--Mrs. Robert Andrews died at her home in Powhattan at half past one o'clock Wednesday afternoon. In the death of Mrs. Andrews Powhattan has lost one of its oldest settlers and strongest characters. She began to fail in health about four years ago and has been a constant, tho patient, sufferer ever since. The family have the sincere sympathy of the whole community in their irreparable loss. Jane E. Hardy was born in Buchanan county, Missouri, Aug. 19, 1854, and moved to Troy, Kansas, with her parents when three years of age, where she lived until after her marriage to Robert Andrews, Sept. 16, 1873. Mr. and Mrs. Andrews moved to Brown county the same year in which they were married, and shortly afterwards purchased the old home place, a mile and a half north of Powhattan, where they continued to reside until their removal to town a few months ago. Mrs. Andrews was the mother of eight children, three of whom died in infancy, and she is survived by four sons and one daughter, as follows: Charles R., of South Dakota; David M., of Idaho; Mary E., of Powhattan; Vernon M., of Kansas City and Oliver L., of Arizona; Mrs. George McCray, of Colorado; Oswald Hardy, of Bendena, and Miss Lillian Hardy, of California. Mrs. Andrews was a heroine of pioneer days. A woman of considerable ability, with rare good sense and a desire to be useful in the world. She endured the hardships and privations of frontier life and was always ready to assist in the alleviation of suffering. She taught school in Brown county over 40 years ago, was a loyal church worker, a member of the Methodist church over 40 years, always standing true and firm for the betterment of community conditions, and a devoted mother and wife.--Powhattan Bee.
