August John Jacob Mileger was born June 6, 1863, and passed away at his home in Edgar, Nebraska, February 5, 1951, at the age of 87 years, seven months and 29 days.

He came to America when he was eighteen years of age and located in Wisconsin. Five years later he came to Nebraska where he engaged in farming until 1939. It was then that failing health forced him to quit farming and he moved into town.

He was united in marriage April 9, 1893, to Millie Mallery. To this union 14 children were born, three of whom preceded him in death. They were Cleo, Alta and Geraldine.

Besides his wife, Millie, he leaves to mourn his passing 11 children as follows: Oscar, Ralph and Ray of Edgar, Alma Smith of Clay Center, Iva Dodder and Evelyn Foltz of Flint, Michigan, William of Wenatchee, Washington, Harold and Gerald of Caldwell, Idaho, Edith Ablott of Pasadena, California, Faye Freude of Los Angeles, California; 34 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, one brother, William of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Two daughters, Edith and Faye and one son, William, were unable to be here for the funeral.

Remember
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold my hand,
Nor I half turn to go, yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you planned:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve;
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
-----Christina G. Rossetti.

Funeral services were conducted at the Edgar Christian church (sic), Thursday, February 8, 1951, at 2:00 p.m., in charge of Rev. E. E. Smith. Mrs. F. W. Hockman and Mrs. W. R. Jacobsen sang "In The Garden," "No Night There" and "Beyond the Sunset." Mrs. Cecil Keeney was at the piano.

Pallbearers were: Wesley Garrison, Alvin Wenske, Howard Peterson, Bill Shuck, Chester Larson and Robert Swanson, grandsons-in-law.

Burial was in the Edgar Cemetery.
