ANDERSON - John F. Anderson, son of Neil and Emma (Peterson) Anderson, was born September 9, 1878 on the old home place in Lucas County, Iowa and passed away at the Lucas County Memorial Hospital on February 18, 1968 at the age of 89 years, five months and nine days.
He was a lifetime member of the United Brethren Church of Otterbein. He lived his entire life on their farm south of Chariton until they retired and moved to Chariton in 1943.
On February 26, 1901, he was united in marriage to Della Arnold, who survives him. They would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on February 26.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Myrtle, his parents, a son-in-law, Leonard Davis, a brother, Ed and a sister, Ellen Willits.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters: Mrs. Fern Davis of Chariton, Mrs. Opal Shanks of Derby, one son, Ivan of Chariton; 12 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; along with a daughter-in-law, Orpha Anderson, a son-in-law, Ralph Shanks; a brother, Charlie Anderson of Chariton; several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Services were conducted by the Rev. E. J. Berreth at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 20, 1968 at the Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton. Serving as bearers were six grandsons: John Shanks, Eddie Shanks, Earl Anderson, Walter Shanks, Robert Shanks and Ralph Shanks. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
