HERMAN ANDREW WARD
LIMESTONE - Herman Andrew Ward, 82, prominent retired potato grower of Limestone, died June 24, 1982, at a Caribou hospital after a long illness. He was born in Limestone, Jan. 1, 1900, the son of John W. and Alice (Willey) Ward. He farmed most of his life in Limestone, retiring in 1963. He was a Past Master and 50 year honorary member of the Limestone Lodge AF&AM No. 214. He was a director of the original Limestone Trust Company and served as a selectman of Limestone for many years. In his early years, he was active in all community youth activities. For his many years of service to the Future Farmers of America, he is now an honorary member. He was the first of threee to receive the Silver Beaver Award, Scoutings highest award, for his many years of devotion to scouting as a Scout Master and other Scouting offices. He was a member of the Limestone Methodist Church, and was married to the former Susan Bassett, Nov 3, 1921, at Mapleton. He is survived by his wife, Susan of Limestone; two daughters, Mrs. Ezra James (Thurly M.) Briggs of Caribou and Mrs. Bernard W. (Norma) Shaw of Limestone; one half sister, Mrs. Nathan (Barbara) Curry of Limestone; five grandchildren, Stephen Shaw, Susan Shaw and Sara Shaw, Ezra James Briggs III and John Ward Briggs; two great grandchildren, Samuel Shaw and Matthew Shaw. Friends may call at the Lancaster-Morgan Funeral Home, Caribou, 6-9PM Saturday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home 2pm Sunday with the Rev. Earle T. McKinney officiating. Evening Masonic Memorial Services will be conducted at 7:30pm Saturday by the Limestone Masonic Lodge. Friends who wish may contribute to the memorial fund of the Limestone Methodist Church or the Maine Lung Association in his memory. Envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Webster Cemetery, Limestone.
