Last week's Humboldt Standard paid splendid tribute to Calvin R. Vandeveer, who passed away at his home in Humboldt, Sunday evening, August 4, at the age of 81 years.
Mr. Vandeveer was born in Illinois, and was married there in 1867 to Miss Emma Ide. They moved to this locality about forty years ago, and for a long time farmed near Stella, which was their town for a number of years.
During his last years of activity, Mr. Vandeveer was janitor at Bratton Union school, and there was held in highest esteem.
Mrs. Vandeveer and the following children survive: Alice, who is Mrs. Ed Sinnett, residing on the highway this side of Humboldt; Jennie, who is Mrs. Beard of Humboldt; Jessie, who is Mrs. Young of Des Moines; Charles C. Vandeveer of Superior, who is well known at Stella, his wife being Miss Nellie Vader; Clarence Vandeveer of Green Bush, Illinois.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Humboldt Tuesday at 2:30, conducted by Rev. E.B. Maxey assisted by Rev. Hohenwald.
Music was furnished by the male quartet of Plaseant View church, and the remains were laid to rest in the Bratton Union cemetery.
