"Prominent Man Dies At Altoga.
H.T. Vance Dies of Tuberculosis Sunday Morning. Resided at Altoga 20 Years. Was Member of I.O.O.F., and W.O.W. Lodges; Interment at Altoga This Morning.
The hearts of the citizens of Altoga and the surrounding community have again been bowed in grief, as a result of the death of H.T. Vance, aged 40 years, which occurred at his home at that place Sunday morning at 5 o'clock. His death was due to tuberculosis. Mr. Vance had not been enjoying the best of health since the death of his wife, which occurred at that place eleven months ago. He went to Arkansas and then to Colorado for several months, which trip he hoped would be beneficial to his health. After returning to his home at Altoga he continued to grow worse, and quietly passed away Sunday morning.
He was born in Arkansas, but had been living at Altoga for the past twenty years, where he owned two good farms. He was a member of the Baptist Church at Altoga and was also a member of the I.O.O.F., W.O.W., Rebekah and the Woodmen Circle lodges of that place. He was a moral honest, sober and upright Christian, gentleman; sincere and trustworthy in all his dealings with his fellowmen.
Mr. Vance leaves five children, four girls and one boy, the oldest a girl of 16, to mourn his death. He is also survived by one brother and one sister, and two half brothers as follows; Ed Vance of near Altoga and Mrs. Tom Roebottom (should be Rowbotham) of the Stiff Chapel community, half brothers, Will Vance of near Copeville and Calvin Vance of Amarillo. The interment was made in the Altoga cemetery this morning under the auspices of the I.O.O.F. Lodge of that place. We extend the deepest sympathy to the bereaved children and relatives in this hour of bereavement."
